Music of the Week: We Are The Champions (Queen)

When it comes to bands, I'm usually all about the lead guitarists and have almost no interest in the vocalists. But, the one and only vocalist who I absolutely love is Freddie Mercury of Queen. This is because he can actually sing (instead of "screaming"). Plus, he is such a showman. I mean, take a look at this video of Queen performing "We Are The Champions." Audacious lyrics, yes, but who could have the confidence to pull it off and make you believe while wearing a black and white, chest-baring unitard? Only Freddie Mercury.

I've paid my dues -
Time after time -
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime -
And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face -
But I've come through

We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting - till the end -
We are the champions -
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions - of the world -

I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls -
You brought me fame and fortuen and everything that goes with it
-
I thank you all -

But it's been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise -
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race -
And I ain't gonna lose -

We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting - till the end -
We are the champions -
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions - of the world -
