I'm such a bad mom. I forgot to post a birthday wish for my Kashy. Well, here it is: I wish you a long and happy life, little one. May your meows be heard for many years.
But, he did get some cake recently (also recent photos of The Boy):

I think Kashy does this purr-cry thing. He has created his own "place" at the table for meals, and we have a special blue spray bottle to make him go away. But, he holds his little meows for a VERY long time when he wants food! I'll try to record for your inspection.
i think what they're describing in the article is what kash does first thing in the morning. you know, his little "mrr-OW-ow," sometimes followed by an almost inaudible, submissive grunt. it isn't a "normal" meow because a "normal" meow lacks the purr. kash is mixing up the purr with his meow, ultimately pulling on your heartstrings. they know us.
what's interesting to me is how he knows which meow to meow. studies show that human mothers respond more quickly and positively to their baby boy's cries when his cries bespeak anger and frustration than they do for their baby girl, should the baby girl cry similarly. mothers respond very quickly, however, to their baby girl whose cries suggest some sort of emotional or physical pain, while ignoring longer their baby boys who cry likewise.
so, i wonder if our little feline friends combine the 'anger' meow with the 'i'm hurting (or at least submissive),' purring meow, for the ultimate attention getter.
