My New Drink

I outgrew the McDonalds' iced coffee, people. Sad but true. It was such a tasty and inexpensive indulgence, too. Lately, Mr. Nonny Nu has been on a coffee kick.* So, every morning, I go to Starbucks and get coffee for us. Okay, so when I say "for us," I really mean "for him." He gets the caramel macchiato with whipped cream and extra extra caramel. I usually also get something for myself, too, but it's mostly not coffee. I have generally ordered a venti iced black tea lightly sweetened. I've ordered their coffees now and then but they're just MMD to me.

Anyhow, a couple weeks ago, I re-acquainted myself with General Foods International coffees. I got the Cafe Vienna. It has long been my favorite out of the many GFI varieties, and not just because of how it tastes. You see, I want so much to visit Salzburg, Austria. I watched The Sound of Music many, many times when I was a child. Always on TV or what we had taped from the TV broadcast. It was edited for time and was also in full screen. Well, about 8 or 9 years ago, I finally bought the widescreen full-length DVD. I can't believe how much of the movie was cut out!! It was missing about 1/3 of all the scenes (all detailed dialogue that provided background and explained a lot of things). And, when you consider that the full screen version cuts off about 1/3 of the screen, I've really only seen 1/3 of TSoM over 20 times! The sweeping scenery coming in at the beginning during the credits is what did it for me. Salzburg is BEAUTIFUL. When I go there, I'm going to take the TSoM tour. So, anyways, that's why I like Cafe Vienna so much.

Well, last week when I went to the store to get more, they didn't have any, so I got the Suisse Mocha instead. It's really more like hot chocolate, so I didn't like it all that much. However, if, instead of making it with hot water like the instructions say, you use hot coffee, then the flavor is not bad. Still, I'm going back to my Cafe Vienna next week.

So, you know that coffee rules photo I linked at the beginning of this blog entry? I'll bet you all are trying to figure out what it says. Me, too!! This is what I've made of it so far:

RULE NO. 1 is about making coffee. To get all its rich and satisfying flavor, use a heaping tablespoonful for every cup.

RULE NO. 2 is about drinking cofee. The buoyant lift it gives you is too good to [blank1] by drinking it only once a day. It [blank2] concentration. It helps you think more quickly and clearly. It actually [blank3] you when you're [blank4]ed. These are [blank5] you want at midday and in the evening. And if you're like 97 people out of 100, you don't [blank6] to worry about sleeping, for the lift lasts only about two hours.

Now the rule about drinking coffee is this:

Go ahead and enjoy it every meal.
Okay, so can you fill in the blanks? I'm going to keep trying, but I have to let my eyes rest for a bit.

[edit] Hey! Check out the name of the abbey where Maria came from--Nonnberg Abbey! It's fate. Also, check out the video at the bottom of the webpage. It's Charmian Carr (the lady who plays Leisl, the eldest Von Trapp daughter).

[edit] OMG, TSoM lovers must watch the video at the bottom of the webpage. There is so much filming info on TSoM!
